Filter installation

You will need skill and a lot of knowledge about gas-burning appliances if you want to convert a gas appliance into a propane appliance. Remember that, some systems are created to use only natural gas, but if you have a system that can be transformed, you will need to modify some appliances and replace some pieces using a conversion kit.

First, we will analyze the conversion on a furnace.

You will need to start by turning off the gas and disconnect the electrical power. You will need to remove the access door by unscrewing the screws. Then, you will need to remove any electrical wires from the gas control valve and the rollout switch, sensor wires.

Slide the manifold pipe out to reach the gas control valve. You will need to spring in the gas control valve, by removing the regulator adjustment cap and the pressure regulator adjustment. Then, you will need to install the new spring into the control valve and also all the pieces removed before. You will need to install a new O ring into the new adjustment after you turned tie regulator screw clockwise 11 times. Attach the burner assembly to the fuel panel after you installed the new orifices from your kit. Then, you will need to slide the burner assembly from the compartment and support the inlet plate. Remove the air shield and put the spoiler screws into the burners and screw them until they are even with the surface of the burner. Also, you will need to replace the air shield and the burner assembly. You will need to have the manifold pipe reattached to the burner and all the electrical wires reconnected to the gas control valve, the rollout switch and the flame sensor. Also, you will need to replace the access door.

Now, you can move on and try to attach the gas connections. You will start by installing the outdoor propane gas supply to the gas supply line. You will need to install a gauge upstream on a manual gas shutoff valve. Use sealant for the pipe connections after you connected them to the furnace. You will need to assure that the shutoff is turned to off position and you will need to remove to attach a pressure gauge by removing the inlet pressure tap and installing a 1/8 inch NPT connector. Turn off the shutoff valve and attach the pressure gauge after you removed the pressure tap and installed a 1/8 inch NPT connector. Switch the manual shutoff on to turn the gas supply on. Now, you will need to reconnect all wires to the furnace and turn up the thermostat until the furnace burners ignite. The minimum pressure of the gas should be 11 inches of water column. After, you done that, you can turn off the electricity and also the main gas shutoff valve. You will need to remove the pressure gauge tube and the hose connector on the main gas line. You will need to reattach the pressure tap on the gas control valve and turn the gas shutoff valve to on position. Check for any leaks using a foaming leak detecting solution and seal any joints where you find a leak.

Now, you will need to adjust the input rate. You will start by turning the electricity off and removing the access door using a screwdriver. Then, you will need to switch gas control to the off position and remove the outlet pressure plug on the gas valve. You will need to wait for at least 5 minutes after you connected the pressure gauge to the 1/8 inch NPT outlet trap. Then, you can turn the gas control and the electricity on. Also, turn the thermostat up until the ignition of the furnace. The pressure should be 10 inches water column. If the gauge indicates less or more than 10 inches water column pressure, you will need to turn off the electricity to the furnace to adjust the pressure. You will need to remove the cap on the gas control valve to expose the regulator adjuster screw. Then, you will turn the screw clockwise to increase pressure and counterclockwise to decrease gas pressure and also, you will need to turn off the gas control before disconnecting the pressure gauge. Now, you will replace the tap plugs and regulator cap on the gas valve and turn the gas control back to the “On” position and replace the burner access door. To test the system, you will need to turn the thermostat up until an ignition and set it back after you finished the checking.
