Skylight shades

If sometimes you want to be able to control the amount of light that passes through the skylight, you can think about using shades.  You can make your own shades at a low cost.

There are many choices available for shades and you have to make the best one.

The materials differ a lot. They can be transparent or less transparent, all in all depending on how much light you want to control. The density of the material can be a decisive factor. A more dense fabric stop all the light while a less dense fabric will only stop some of the glare.

Many people choose the venetian blinds. They are just perfect to still be able to stare down the window while diffusing some of the light.

Think about the functionality of the room when you choose the blinds. Maybe you have a home theater and you need darkness inside the room. Also you can have them automatic or manual because you have to know that skylights are hard to reach sometimes. A remote control can turn in very handy. If the skylight is easy to reach, there is no need to spend extra money on an automatic shade.

From time to time use a light vacuum cleaner on the shade’s surface to eliminate dust and other debris. For a more thorough cleaning use a mixture of soap and water to clean the shade’s surface. If you take care of all this you will have the shades working for a very long period.
