Wall partition strength

Impact and airborne are the most common noise pollution and they can be reduced by soundproofing a wall over an existing wall. The type of noise defines the products for soundproofing which are custom made for many kind f noises. Moving furniture, footsteps, traffic noise, television, load music and other sound pollutants have their custom made products for soundproofing.

In most cases, house owners want to avoid unwanted noise, but in some cases, house owners try to keep the sound inside to create the same environment as a theater. This is not a hard project if you have some do-it-yourself skills and you enjoy your work. You can choose from increasing the thickness of your walls and using hat channels for noise absorption.

Being directly fixed to the wall surface, resilient channels represent a good solution. One inch gap will be created by the channels between the wall and the accessory wall. The channels will be installed horizontal across the wall and they will be fixed by screwing the lower narrow flange to the wall. The top flange will “float”. The drywall will act like a shock absorber after you attach it to the channel. They are classified to three five or more class points for any wall. Make sure that the screws get through the channel between the studs and not into them or into the wall. If this thing happens, the sound absorbing properties are cancelled.

Metal or wooden studs represent another good solution for creating a drywall sound barrier. Metal is recommended for those how worked in their house construction because they are used with the material and its properties. Metal is a good material to work with because it doesn’t create mess and it is quick and easy to install. Wooden studs are also a good choice. They are 25 mm thick and they are attached to the wall using screw or nails. Both methods will steal some space from your room after the project is finished. It is recommended to use a MLV material for a good sealing. This material will be fixed on the wall using glue or nails. If you have the studs already installed, you can fix the matting over them and then to install the drywall. MLV can be painted or treated before installation.
