Decorations for the Christmas Holiday
The most important thing about Christmas accessories and decorations is represented by the feeling created into your house for your family and your guests. Decorations can be made in traditional way, using lights and Santa figurines, but you can also choose for a casual atmosphere with white lights and natural accessories or a modern accent created with silver and blue color theme.
Exterior decorations are a very important think to care about and you will do it before you start anything to the interior.
The front door must be decorated with a wreath which will be hanged on it. You can buy a wreath from a local store or from the stand you bought the Christmas tree. A bow made from red ribbon can be a good accessory for your wreath. Also, you can choose to create your own wreath and you will start with a foam base. You can add pine cones, twigs or cranberries to it.
A very important step to take before Christmas is the tree. You will need to choose it carefully thinking about you ceiling height and the space of the room where it will be placed. You will need to buy a tree with 6 to 12 inches shorter than the ceiling if you want to add an accessory to the top. Another good tip is to trim a half inch from the base of the tree if you want it to last longer. The tree must be installed in a tree stand filled with cold water. You can decorate your tree using strings and other colored accessories. They can be purchased from the local store or you can handmade them helped by your kids. For a good looking tree, light are necessary. Also, a color theme will make the tree look better.
The fireplace and mantel should be also decorated with style. They usually represent a very important place for the general design of the house and you will create a holiday atmosphere by decorating them. You can use large candles if you don’t light fires. Mantels can be decorated with glass vases filled with silver ball ornaments. They can be surrounded by some garlands which will create a fine atmosphere. If you look for a modern style, some magazines suggest you to use white platters filled with citrus fruits for a colorful mantel. You can use both fake and real fruits which should be replaced at every ten days to prevent rooting. Candles added between platters can add something more to the design and atmosphere.
Available in red, white, pink and yellow, poinsettias come in foil-covered flower pots. They can bring a new fresh air to the place near the entrance. For a modern design, you will cut some poinsettias stems and place them in vases around the room.
Even if you try to give a traditional or a modern look to your house, you can add some handmade accessories like the clothespin reindeer made by your kids.
